Memorial Day ceremonies are set

Local communities have announced plans for upcoming Memorial Day celebrations.

Paden City

Memorial Day Ceremonies Paden City Park and Pool Commission, The American Legion family of Paden City Post 86 and Sistersville combined Honor Guard will hold Memorial Day services on May 26 in Paden City.

The American Legion Post 86 family will hold services at Paden Memorial Gardens beginning at 10 a.m. American Legion Post 86 commander Josh Billiter will be in charge of the ceremonies.

The Park and Pool Commission will have a program at the stage in the Paden City Park at 11 a.m. Richard Johnson and Wade Ferrebee are the coordinators. Mayor John Hopkins will be the main speaker. Also on the program is Josh Billiter, Post 86 Commander.

The American Legion Axillary and Sons of the American Legion of Post 86 will flag Veterans Graves at Paden Memorial Gardens on Wednesday Evening May 21. Since Paden City American Legion Post 86 no longer operates a canteen, flags will be available for those who wish to place flags on the graves at other cemeteries at the Paden City recorder’s office during business hours on May 21, 22, 23 while supplies last.

Sistersville

The Sistersville American Legion Post #67 will host the Memorial day program and ceremonies on May 26 in Sistersville this year.

The program will begin at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park.

The “missing man” ceremony is planned for this year along with the laying of the wreath and tossing one in the river for Navy and Marines.

Poppy Queen candidates will be announced and will begin selling poppies for donations.

Luncheon will be provided for all by Post 67 and served by Unit 67 at the Post and open to the public, immediately following the honors at the Veterans park.
