Magistrates oversee cases

The following cases were heard recently in Tyler County Magistrate Court before Magistrate John Roberts and Mike Griffin:

Corey A. Jones, 23, of 24 Stonehedge Way, Amherst, W.Va., was charged with the misdemeanor offenses of driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic control device, a stop sign violation. The offenses allegedly occurred in Paden City on Nov. 17 in Paden City. Bond was set at $1,000 for each offense. He will appear for a hearing at a date yet to be set.

Richard Dean Hooks, 39, of Rippentuck Road, Friendly, appeared before Griffin on a felony charge of third offense DUI allegedly having occurred on Nov. 23 in Tyler County. Bond was set at $1,000 and he was released pending a hearing.

Douglas Okorn, 28, of 134 Hartland Ave., Clarksburg, W.Va., appeared in magistrate court on Nov. 12, to face charges of misdemeanor driving left of center and failure to maintain control of a vehicle. The offenses allegedly occurred in Tyler County on Nov. 12. He was released on a $400 personal recognizance bond. No date has yet been set for a hearing.

Kenneth H. Templeton Jr, 29, of 87 May Ridge Road, Ellenboro, W.Va., appeared before Griffin on Nov. 22 to face the charge of selling alcohol to an underage person. A $500 personal recognizance bond was set and a hearing will be set. The offense allegedly occurred in Tyler County.

Donald Eugene Stevens, 38, of 998 Wick Road, Middlebourne, was charged on Nov. 14, with the misdemeanor offense of driving on a suspended license (non-DUI) and with a separate offense of no seat belt, both to have occurred in Tyler County. He appeared in court on Nov. 22. and entered a plea of no contest to the charges. He was fined $125 plus costs and fees.

Bradley Lee Dawson, 32, of 703 Second St, St Marys, W.Va., is charged with four separate misdemeanor offenses of speeding, improper passing, improper lane changing, and littering. The offenses all allegedly occurred near Friendly on Nov. 23. He will appear for a hearing at a date yet to be set. He was released on a $800 personal recognizance bond.

Gary L. Stewart Jr., 29, of 682 Maple Lane Rd, Sistersville, appeared in magistrate court on Nov. 25 on charges of unlawfully operating an all terrain vehicle with more than one passenger and exceeding speed limit, operating ATV on center line, and operating an ATV while under the influence or DUI. The offenses allegedly occurred near Rippentuck Road and Friendly Hill in on Nov. 18. A hearing date will be set and he is free on a $700 personal recognizance bond.

Kae Lee Cornell, 41, of 631 South Third Ave., Paden City, was charged on Nov. 19, with failure to cause her minor child to attend school. She is accused of the offense after receiving due notice that the child had excessive unexcused absences. She is free on a $500 personal recognizance bond, pending a hearing.

Clarence George Swartzmiller, 57, of 1810 Tyler Highway, Sistersville, was charged on Nov. 23 with two misdemeanor offenses of speeding 69 in a 55 zone and DUI less than 0.15, having occurred on Nov. 23 in Tyler County. He was released on a $600 personal recognizance bond, pending a hearing.

Randell Glen Masters, 45, of 2654 Horseneck Road, St. Marys, W.Va., pleaded guilty on Nov. 14 to four separate misdemeanor charges. He was charged on Oct. 31 with second-offense driving on a revoked license (non-DUI), no insurance, defective equipment, and no registration. He was fined a total of $320 plus costs and fees totaling $641.

Andrew Calvin Brown, 68, of HC, Box 201, Pine Grove, was charged on Nov. 17 with three misdemeanor offenses of destruction of property, trespassing, and public intoxication, having occurred in on Eight Mile Ridge. He was released on $2,500 bond. A hearing date has yet to be set.
