Knight band collects Grand Champion honors

The Marching Silver Knights perform at the first home football game of the year at Knight Stadium

The Tyler Consolidated High School Silver Knight Marching Band competed at the Cabell Midland Band Show on Sept. 21 with 18 bands performing.

The Pride of Tyler County came home with several top awards at the show including: First place band in their class; First place Field Commander, Sarah Nething; second place drum line.

The Knights also won Grand Champion of the small band division among Buffalo Putnam, Nicholas County, Tolsia, Bluefield, Logan, Sissonville and Poca. The rankings for the Class C bands in competition were as follows: Tyler Consolidated, Poca, Logan, Sissonville and Nicholas County.

Tyler Consolidated also out scored several bands in the large division one including: Scott, Point Pleasant, Nitro, Huntington, Winfield and Wayne.

Capital High School took the Grand Champion prize of the large band division.

Field Commander, Sarah Nething, received the First Place Field Commander award at the Cabell Midland High School Band competition.

Members of the Grand Champion Knights are: Field Commander, Sarah Nething; Flutes – Sydney White, Jasmine Kyle, Ali Cooper; Clarinet – Shayla Jones, Marisha Morris, Jenny Lynch, Hannah Ankrom, Matalyn Hayes; Alto sax – Grace Rine, Charlie McNees, Bryan Day, Brittany Weekley, Kia Barnhart, Becky Bolin; Trumpet – Dan Grimm, David Litten, Angel Kyle, Kali Shanabarger, Sam Frum, Jerrick Mercer, McKenzie Kimble; Trombone – Josh Pelikan, Julian Work, Jessica Kimble, Scott Gorby, Lenora Howell, Justin Phillips; Auxiliary Percussion – Chad Hamilton; Baritone – Justin Boyd; Tuba – Kaleb Tanley; Snare Drums – Caroline Bantug, Hannah Thomas; Multiple Toms – Tyler Blizzard; Bass Drums – Molly Rine, Alex Lohr, Brannon Jones; Crash Cymbals – Hannah Dennis; Auxiliary Percussion – Nathan Eddy, Caramia Southerly, Allyson; and Band Managers – Maddison Dillon, Aleah Baker, Caleb Boley and Chris Southerly.

The Silver Knight Marching band is directed by Wayne Smith and Assistant Director, Sally Conklin. Percussion instructor is Brian Bailey and support staff includes Martin Parrish and Rosemary Haught.

The Tyler Consolidated High School Silver Knight Marching Band, under the direction of Wayne Smith, won the Grand Champion of the small band division at the Cabell Midland High School Band competition.

The Marching Silver Knights performed in front of a large hometown crowd at the 2013 West Virginia Oil and Gas Festival Grand Trophy Parade two weeks ago.
