Tyler County Commission approved the dates for cabling bids at the June 11 meeting. Bids must be turned in to the County Clerk’s Office by the end of the business day on July 8, and they will be reviewed on July 9. For this purpose, the commission will soon be placing the proper legal advertisements in the paper.

Regarding the Tyler-Wetzel Child Advocacy Center (CAC), they accepted the resignation of Project Director Shawna Griffin, effective May 31, and appointed Melody Glasscock to the position on a contracted basis for the month of June.

Glasscock reported that she will be fixing grants that were not up to code in order to receive the correct reimbursements in the future. Citing an increase in numbers, she would also like to figure out a way to keep the CAC open for a period of time each day.

Other employees approved for hiring were Melissa Hall as a 911 Dispatcher, Christopher Brown for summer help in the Sheriff’s Tax Office and Emily Wade as a temporary assistant in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Josh Fulks was in attendance to discuss new laws for Emergency Medical Dispatch going into effect July 1. Dispatchers will determine by information they receive during emergency calls if the caller is in need of Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS). In the event that a call is determined to be ALS, dispatchers will send a paramedic.

If a paramedic is not on hand in Middlebourne or Alma, one will be asked to assist from Sistersville.

Commissioner John Stender relayed a phone conversation he had with a representative from Antero Resources, which was meeting that day with other oil companies and involved parties concerning the scanning of courthouse records. They hope to contact the commissioners with updates by Thursday. Additionally, they are discussing another possible extension of courthouse hours.

In house budget revisions were made for the Office of Emergency Management, the Tyler-Wetzel Child Advocacy Center, Victims of Crime Advocate, the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (OEM), the County Commission and the Assessor’s Office. Budget revisions were also made for law enforcement.

Assessor Jackson Hayes presented Commission President John Stender with new and updated exonerations.

Coon Restoration of Ohio will be giving the commission an estimate on repairs to the courthouse porch.

The National Association of Counties adjusted its annual dues from $400 to $450, which the commission determined to pay.

In other news, the commission received a letter from the West Virginia County Risk Pool renewing insurance for employees for the next fiscal year; appointed John Eckels to the Workforce Investment Executive Committee; discussed high grass at the County Home on the Tyler County Fairgrounds; determined to sign the insurance title for a new Sistersville General Hospital ambulance; and approved cleaning expenditures for the Office of the Magistrate Court, the clerk’s fiduciary report, the minutes of the May 28 meeting and the paying of bills.
