Tom Knopp is “Walking Out Hunger”

By Staff | May 1, 2013

Tom Knopp, who is “Walking Out Hunger” by walking 25 miles in every county in W.Va., stops for a much deserved rest at the Wells Inn hotel and restaurant in Sistersville on Friday. From Tyler County, he plans to move on to Wetzel County and eventually “zigzag” from the Northern Panhandle to the rest of the counties. His last stop will be in Wayne County, where he lives and performs charity work regularly.

“It’s been on my mind that hunger is not only in Wayne County but the whole state,” Knopp said about why he embarked on this journey.

In the first week of his walk, he stated that they are already drawing in donations. Their ultimate goal is $555,000.

When it comes to concerns people have expressed about the journey’s possible strain on him, the 68-year-old Knopp does not seem deterred.

“The Lord’s been in it with us from the beginning, and he’s going to follow us through all the way to the end,” he said.

Donations can be made via www.walkingouthunger.org. Checks can be made out to Mountaineer Food Bank.
