Tyler County Fair Association Reporter Clara Glover announced during the fair board’s Feb. 25 meeting that the association contracted entertainment for each night with the exception of Wednesday for the 2013 Tyler County Fair.

The 2013 lineup will feature the Texaco Showdown on Tuesday, Tom and Carol Wriston and Johnny Staats on Thursday, Titus Canbe and Blue Oyster Cult on Friday and Al Spencer with the Mountain State Bluegrass and Charlie Worsham on Saturday.

In other business, the association will be finishing up a contract with Johnny Watson this week. The association agreed to turn over the speedway to the Hometown Racing Association, which is lead by Watson. A former racer, Watson plans to continue the traditional weekly Saturday night racing.

Director of the Child Advocacy Center Shawna Griffin attended the meeting to discuss using the fairgrounds to host a fundraising concert on the tentative date of July 5. Griffin, along with the association, discussed her plans regarding security, camping, garbage pick-up, parking, port-a-johns, and concessions.

Reporter Julia Archer took a moment to thank everyone who helped with the spaghetti dinner. The dinner raised $1,369.19.

“I was very pleased with how well it went off. Thank you for your donations desserts, physical labor and just for being there,” said Archer.

Another dinner will be held on March 10 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The menu will include chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, noodles, salad, green beans and desserts. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children.

The association discussed creating a scholarship fund. After much discussion about requirements, the association moved to appoint a committee to further discuss the details of the scholarship. Another committee was formed to discuss sponsorship for the fair book advertisements.

The association agreed to purchase advertisement for the Texaco Showdown with 99.5-FM. Additionally, they will purchase a ham at the FFA Ham and Bacon Sale.

The minutes of the Feb. 11 meeting were approved.

The association’s meetings are held at the Log Building at the Tyler County Fairgrounds on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
