COSI Visits PCES
COSI’s Body Mechanic, Joe, helped students at Paden City Elementary learn what it takes to keep their engines in tip-top shape. Students explored the digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems, plus learned about nutrients and how exercise keeps a body healthy.
Students were then scheduled to participate in the hands-on activities by grade level. Paden City High School students assisted students by facilitating each station.
The Hands-on activities included: Brain Games that tested the nervous system and tried to trick their brains. Build a meal helped students explore nutrition labels and food to make a balanced meal. Mr. Bones assisted students to learn facts about bones by assembling a life-size puzzle. In the Spot the Starch students completed a simple experiment to discover starch in food. Take a Closer Look utilized a magnifying scope to investigate human tissues and cells. The Food Feud was a trivia game where students learned about the food pyramid, the digestive system and other entertaining body facts. What’s your number had students do physical activity and monitored their heart rate before and after. When Health Gets Hurt was the final station that let students observe the causes and effects of how tobacco and high fat food can harm their bodies. Once again, COSI was a great hit. If you ever get a chance to visit the COSI center in Columbus, it is a great trip.
