The Tyler County Board of Education has realized enough energy savings to reduce equivalent energy and operational costs by $2,115,132.

This effort, implemented in 2002, was among the first of its kind in the region.

“The Tyler County Board of Education has been proactive toward achieving a greener, more sustainable future,” said Robin Daquilante, superintendent, Tyler County Board of Education. “With the help of Siemens we have improved staff productivity and created a more comfortable and sustainable learning environment for our students.”

The facility improvement measures included a comprehensive energy savings retrofit to 294,000 square feet of space that included Tyler Consolidated High School/Middle School, Arthur I. Boreman Elementary School and Sistersville Elementary School.

The more than $2 million savings represents over a 12% reduction in baseline electric usage, a 38% reduction in baseline gas usage and a 38% reduction in baseline water usage over a ten-year period.

From an environmental standpoint, the Tyler County Board of Education has dramatically reduced their carbon footprint through this project with a reduction of 28% in carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to approximately 3,530 cars removed from the road or 98 acres of trees, preserved from deforestation each year.
