The Tyler Consolidated High School Marching Band won first place honors at the Ripley Band Show on Saturday. There were 22 bands from across the state competing for top honors.

The Knights were in a class with five other bands and outscored all of them. In their class, Tyler earned first place band and first place percussion. The band also had the high music score, high marching score and high general effect score.

Field commander Ashley Watson came in a slim half point behind the Wahama field commander to earn third place honors. Trumpet players Dan Grimm and David Litten were chosen as the outstanding soloists in their class.

The Knights were the first place band in Class B followed by second place Roane County, third place Sissonville, fourth place Lincoln County, fifth place Wahama and sixth place Valley. The Knights also outscored four bands in the bigger Class A and one band in the biggest open class to earn fourth place overall in the field of 22. George Washington from Charleston was first place and the grand champion followed by Cabell-Midland, Capital and Tyler Consolidated.
