In honor of the Town of Middlebourne’s upcoming 200th birthday in June of 2013, members of the community are planning a weekend celebration.

A meeting was held Thursday evening, July 12, at the Stealy-Greene center in order to begin the process of organizing a two or three day celebration.

To date, the plans under discussion for the upcoming event include guest speakers, including a re-enactor who portrays A.I. Boreman, the first governor of West Virginia; a display of old photographs and memorabilia at the Middlebourne Fire Hall; a hamburger/hot dog cookout and homemade ice cream and cobblers at the Senior Center on Friday evening; a quilt show; special entertainment on both Friday and Saturday; a Fireman’s Parade on Friday evening; another parade on Saturday; birthday cakes; a beauty pageant; a fireworks display on Saturday night; and an organ concert at church on Sunday afternoon.

Mayor Gayla Fisher told those present that Long Reach Federal Credit Union had donated $500 towards expenses for the celebration and that other donations were being sought. Entertainment under consideration for the 200th Birthday Celebration includes Landau Eugene Murphy and One Accord.

The next planning meeting will be held August 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the center. Anyone who resides in Middlebourne and wishes to participate in the planning or who would like to volunteer to help is invited to attend.
