SCSO plans for upcoming festivities

The Annual Picnic in the Park was the main discussion at the June 13 meeting of the Sistersville Community Service Organization held at the Wells Inn.

The schedule of events for the July 8 celebration was released. Activities will kick off at noon at the Sistersville City Park with a Flag ceremony to take place at 1:30 p.m. Entertainment will start at 2 p.m.

Free cake and ice cream, donated by the Sistersville IGA, will be available to all who attend. Swimming at the City Pool will cost $1 for the day.

The Mountain State Bluegrass Express will perform under the big shelter from 2-4 p.m. and Dan Henthorn and Battle Weary Band will perform two shows on the stage from 7-8 p.m. and 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

A gigantic fireworks show will take place at approximately 9:30 p.m. and everyone is invited to bring their lawn chair and enjoy the show. Donations are still being collected for the fireworks display.

Games, crafts, food booths, and a climbing wall will also be on site for all to enjoy. There will be no set-up fee for anyone wanting to set up a booth. The S.C.S.O. encourages all local businesses to decorate their windows and buildings for Independence Day in honor of America.

Audist Pancake, owner of a new business in Sistersville, “Making Miracles” located at 210 Elizabeth St. was welcomed to the group and spoke of upcoming projects her christian business is planning.

Cindy Lewis, representing the Sistersville Genesis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, described the major renovations taking place at the Center and told of plans of several upcoming events planned for residents and the community.

Terry Wiley of the Gold Derrick Gallery has scheduled several shows in the near future including a show featuring the Sistersville Ferry and it’s history; and a show by Ed Hartman.

In attendance at the meeting were: Barbara Vincent, Carmen Silliman, Carol Kehrer, Audist Pancake, Cindy Lewis and Terry Wiley.
