‘Sweep’ held in memory of Weigle
The annual Ohio River Sweep will be held Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. until noon in memory of Edwin C. “Bud” Weigle, a charter member of the Tyler County Solid Waste Authority. He was organizer of the Ohio River Sweep for Tyler County since its inception.
This year’s Tyler County location of the Sweep will once again be located at the Paden City boat dock. Kick off time is 9 a.m. and will finish up with a pizza lunch at noon. Registration begins around 8:30 a.m. Free t-shirts will be given to all registered participants. Prizes will also be awarded by the TC Solid Waste Authority. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. It is advisable to wear old clothing and footwear suitable for walking in the mud.
Civic organizations, church groups, families and individuals are all encouraged to take part in this event. Local sponsors are the Tyler County Solid Waste Authority and Northern Mountaineer Bass Club. For more information, call Nancy Haught, 304-758-4014.
River Sweep is a riverbank cleanup that extends the entire length of the Ohio River and beyond. More than 3,000 miles of shoreline will be combed for trash and debris. This is the largest environmental event of its kind and encompasses six states.
