Miller to represent Tyler County for state award

Tyler County Board of Education met Monday evening at Sistersville Elementary School for the AIB/SES LSIC meeting at 6 p.m. and conducted their regular business meeting at 7 p.m. Board member Larry Thomas was absent from the meetings.

Superintendent Robin Daquilante announced to board members that Suzette Miller had been chosen as Tyler County Teacher of the Year and would represent the county at the state level for the Teacher of the Year title.

“She does a great job,” said Daquilante.

“Thanks for all you do,” she told Miller, who was present at the meeting.

Jeff Davis, Financial Manager and Treasurer for Tyler County Schools, next addressed the board on the subject of the 2012-2013 preliminary budget for Tyler County Schools. The budget is available to the public at this time and will be published in this week and next week’s issue of the Tyler Star News legal section.

In other matters, personnel requests were approved for Greg Goodfellow, TCMS Broadcast Teacher, to take 13 students to tour WTRF-TV in Wheeling on May 14; Charlene Galluzzo, TCHS softball coach, one professional leave day to attend the 2012 WVSSAC State Softball Tournament in Vienna; and Melissa Smith, permission to use the TCHS auditorium, band room, and concession area for Mountaineer Pageant, a fundraiser for Brock’s Battle, on June 9.

The board accepted the resignation of Gene Rich as head baseball coach, effective as of April 26, 2012.

Employments and transfers approved included Kathy Nedley, Substitute Teacher Countywide, effective July 1; and Aundie McMullen, Custodian II, TCHS./TCMS, effective May 8.

Authorization and payment of bills were also approved by the board, who then wen into executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
