Nominations sought for award
The Paden City Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award Committee is seeking nominations for the 2012 award.
The Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) is presented annually during the Alumni Weekend. This year’s event is slated for June 28 through July 1. The DAA is the Association’s highest award and is given to graduates of Paden City High School who have distinguished themselves in either their professional career, personal contributions to society and or community service. Past recipients have included research scientists, national recognized journalists, doctors, educators, community leaders and high ranking military personnel.
The Distinguished Alumni Award Reception is one of the highlights of the Alumni Weekend activities and is scheduled for Saturday, June 30 at Paden City High School beginning at 4:30 p.m. It precedes the Green and White Banquet at 6 p.m. in the school’s banquet hall. A spokesperson for the committee noted, “This award is a great way to honor and recognize the accomplishments of the alumni of Paden City High School. It also is a wonderful method to show what people from Paden City High School can and have achieved after graduating high school. It also encourages today’s students and gives them an idea of what can aspire to later in life.”
Past recipients include Jesse Brown, Owen McKay, John Hopkins, Margaret Sine, Matt Long, Patricia Lyle, J. Ford Huffman, Sue Miles Nichols, Rodney McWilliams, Jeff Casteel, The Cornerstone Committee, Jim Richmond, Jarvis Moyers, Tom McKay, and Nook Smittle.
Nomination forms are available at the Paden City Museum and the Paden City Public Library and can be mailed to P.O. Box 233, Paden City, WV 26159 or 512 N. 4th. Ave. Paden City, WV 26159. Nominations must be postmarked by May 15, 2012 for consideration.
