Cash stolen from local department
An investigation is underway in Paden City after officials discovered money was missing from the Paden City Police Department.
According to Senior Trooper J.R. Kocher of the Moundsville Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, the discovery was made in October by Interim Police Chief Michael Owens. “Officer Owens contacted the Wetzel County Prosecuting Attorney, who in turn contacted the State Police,” Kocher explained.
The amount of cash missing from the department has not been disclosed, but Kocher said it was a “substantial amount.”
No one in particular in the Paden City Police Department is being linked to the investigation, according to officials. However, West Virginia State Police are examining “allegations regarding several issues” at the Paden City department, including the missing money.
The investigation into the theft is ongoing.
