The charred remains of furniture were found in the attic of the vacant apartment building.

The cause of an apartment fire on Maple Lane in Sistersville remains under investigation.

A call was received around 4 a.m. on Oct. 13. Units from Sistersville, Paden City and Middlebourne responded to the structure fire at a vacant apartment building near the fire hall.

According to Fire Chief Steve Leasure, the blaze is believed to have originated in the attic of the complex, where upholstered furniture and other items were found. The contributing factors to the ignition of the fire are not known.
