SPD apprehends fugitive
Jason Allen Dent, age 26, formerly of Brevard County, Fla., was arrested by the Sistersville Police Department Sept. 29 near his home in the city limits.
Dent, who was convicted in 2007 of third degree felony child abuse in Brevard County, was arrested on a probation violation by officers. The warrant was issued from Florida.
A fugitive from justice warrant was received by Sistersville Police Department from Dent’s probation officer.
When contacted by Tyler Star News, Lynn Hooper of the Florida State Attorney’s Office said, “Generally speaking, we do extradite east of the Mississippi River, on felonies.”
“Looking at notes from the attorney in charge of the case, it appears we will extradite Mr. Dent,” she added.
The Florida warrant was issued on Sept. 19. Dent also has pending charges concerning a conviction on misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Patrolman Bryan Owens and Sergeant Alex Northcraft made the arrest without incident,” commented Sistersville Police Chief Ben Placer. “He was taken in front of the Tyler County Magistrate Court following his arrest.”
Dent is currently housed in North Central Regional Jail in Greenwood, W.Va., awaiting extradition.
