Heroes to be recognized

By Staff | Sep 7, 2011

Mayor Dave Fox signed a resolution proclaiming Sept. 11, 2011 as “Heroes’ Day” in the City of Sistersville. The measure was also endorsed by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Del. Roger Romine.

Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on America. Services, parades and memorials are slated nationwide to commemorate the passing of a decade.

In Tyler County, a parade and memorial service has been planned to honor the fallen and recognize the local “heroes” who continue to serve the community, both volunteer and professional.

The parade will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 11 in Sistersville. Line-up will begin at 12:45 p.m. on Riverside Drive.

A memorial service will commence at the Sistersville City Park immediately following the parade, where prayers will be offered and wreaths laid in remembrance of the men and women who lost their lives on Sept. 11.

Law enforcement officers, volunteer fire companies, EMS workers, first responders, veterans, bands and clergy from the surrounding area have been invited to participate in the event.

For additional information or to participate in the parade, please contact Rev. Dawson at 304-652-2794 or 304-771-5161.
