WV Press recently announced the results of its annual newspaper editorial contest at The Waterfront Hotel Morgantown on Aug. 6, during its annual meeting. West Virginia’s daily and weekly newspapers set records in several of the categories, with several newspapers sweeping contest categories.

The Tyler Star News was among the newspapers to receive awards for editorial and advertising submissions for 2010.

The staff was recognized for excellence in the following categories:

Best Photo Essay, 2nd place, by Jonay Corley.

Best Lifestyle Columnist, 1st place, “Too Close To Home” by Jonay Corley.

Best Sports Columnist, 1st place, “On The Light Side” by Judy Light.

Best Photography (Sports), 1st place, Jackie Clark pole-vaulting, by Judy Light.

Best Lifestyle Feature Writing, 3rd place, “Local veterans honor their own” by Judy Light.

Best Special Section, Tyler County High School Alumni tab (2010), by Lisa Northcraft, Jonay Corley and Dan Smolira.
