Wreck blocks 23

By Staff | Jun 1, 2011

An Alma resident was transported to the hospital Monday evening following an automobile accident on W.Va. 23 in Shirley.

Kristin McIntyre was traveling eastbound in a 1996 Ford Explorer owed by Harry McIntrye, when she ran off the right side of the road, striking a fence post at Shirley Park.

The vehicle re-entered the roadway and struck a telephone pole. The vehicle went through the yard of Charles Anderson, into a bush and struck a Maple tree. It came to rest after breaking off a water well head.

Subsequently, the downed telephone pole struck an electric pole, blocking traffic on W.Va. 23 for several hours.

The driver was transported to Sistersville General Hospital for treatment and later released.

Deputies from the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office and volunteers from the Shirley Fire Department remained on the scene until the utility poles were reset. They were assisted by Middlebourne EMS and Alma Volunteer Fire Department.

The accident remains under investigation by the TCSO.
