Bennett charged with multiple counts

A Friendly man is behind bars following an incident with a firearm on Sunday morning.
Deputies from the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at the Hill Street apartments in Friendly at approximately 3:11 a.m. after receiving a call alleging that a male subject was in the breezeway of the apartment building with a firearm. The suspect was later identified as Larry Eugene Bennett, age 45.
“We received a report that Bennett had allegedly pointed a gun at a lady who was driving by,” explained Tyler County Sheriff Bob Kendle.
As deputies were attempting to gain entry to Bennett’s apartment, he pointed a loaded shotgun in their direction. Subsequently, the deputies established a perimeter around the building, evacuated the remaining apartments to insure public safety and contacted the Wetzel County SRT unit for backup.
However, prior to the arrival of the SRT unit, Bennett exited the apartment with the firearm in hand. Deputies ordered him to surrender and drop the weapon and Bennett complied.
Bennett was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm, domestic assault, three counts of brandishing a firearm and two counts of assault on a police officer.
He is currently being housed in the North Central Regional Jail in Greenwood, W.Va. in lieu of $35,000 bond.
