Sistersville nets franchise restaurant
Sistersville residents and passersby may soon be able to take advantage of “$5 footlongs”, as rumors circulate that developers from the Subway franchise have purchased the empty lot along W.Va. 2, across from Par Mar.
According to Sistersville Mayor Dave Fox, the city signed a building permit for a franchise representative last week for construction to begin.
“It will be another great addition to our city,” commented Fox.
The land, owned by the Thaw family, will sport a building and a parking lot to support the business.
Fox hopes to see some progress in October and said he will do whatever it takes to make the process easy for the developers.
Subway has 31,801 restaurants in 91 countries, with 22,755 of them in the United States.
Founded in the summer of 1965 in Bridgeport, Conn., Subway was the brainchild of 17-year-old Fred DeLuca and his family friend Dr. Peter Buck, for the purpose of funding DeLuca’s college tuition. Little did he know that he would succeed in doing more than he planned.
The chain consistently ranks at the top of Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500 rankings. Besides being number one for the Submarine Sandwich Category, the Subway chain has received the distinction as being the number one Franchise Opportunity for 15 of the past 21 years.
