Fight results in an arrest
A Sistersville woman has been charged with felony malicious assault after an altercation with a neighbor on Aug. 20.
At approximately 7 p.m., officers from the Sistersville Police Department were dispatched to George Street in Sistersville in response to an argument between neighbors. Upon arrival, the officers learned the fight had been verbal until one of the neighbors, Maria Smith, allegedly went to her home and returned with a baseball bat and proceeded to strike her neighbor in the arm several times.
Smith, 30, of 126 George Street, Sistersville, was arraigned on charges of malicious assault before Magistrate Michael Griffin and transported to North Central Regional Jail in Greenwood.
According to West Virginia State Code (61-2-9) if any person maliciously wound any person or by any means cause him bodily injury with intent to main, disfigure, disable or kill, can be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, shall be punished by confinement in a state correctional facility for not less than two or more than 10 years.
Smith posted bail of $5,000 as 10 percent cash and was released on Aug. 21.
