Tragedy befell a couple riding an ATV along W.Va. 180 toward Middlebourne on Monday evening.

At approximately 10 p.m. deputies from the Tyler County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of the accident to find that an ATV carrying two passengers had struck a pickup truck in the rear. The female passenger was ejected from the ATV and landed in the bed of the truck. The driver of the ATV fled the scene on foot.

Middlebourne EMS attended to the female victim on the scene and she was later taken by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

The accident is being investigated by Deputy Joseph Richardson with the assistance of Deputy J.K. Maston.
