Pharmacy site of attempted robbery

By Staff | Mar 11, 2009

Prunty’s Pharmacy in Middlebourne was the site of an attempted robbery on March 7, as law enforcement were called to the scene of the crime.

Deputy J.K. Maston, Sheriff Bob Kendle and Cpl. Shannon Huffman responded to the call at approximately 11:30 p.m on Saturday.

Although the would-be robbers were able to gain entry into the building through the front door using a crowbar, nothing was taken from the business as the intruders were deterred by the alarm system.

“The system we have here is complicated,” remarked pharmacy owner Larry Prunty. “Once they triggered the alarm they ran away.”

According to Huffman, witnesses to the crime reported seeing two individuals fleeing the premises down an alley as the alarm sounded.

“The police did a good job and answered the call promptly,” commented Prunty. “People need to realize that even though this is a rural area, we do have adequate police coverage.”

Though leads are being followed up on, as of press time no one has been charged in connection to the crime and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Tyler County Sheriff’s Department immediately. Anonymous tips will be accepted.
