Boggs Pizza Roundball Tournament

By Randy Rutherford - staff writer | Jan 22, 2026

The Castle at Tyler Consolidated echoed with more than just the bounce of basketballs this past weekend. On January 16 and 17, the annual Boggs Pizza Roundball Classic returned, turning the gym into a gathering place for not only great competition, but also memories that stretched across generations.

The tournament tipped off Friday night, January 16, with boys’ team action as Wheeling Central and North Marion took the floor, setting the tone for the tournament with hard-nosed play. That matchup was followed by a girls contest featuring John Marshall and North Marion, giving fans a full evening of high-energy basketball to open the Classic.

Saturday, January 17, brought an even bigger slate of games and events. The day began with a girls’ matchup between Magnolia and John Marshall, followed by North Marion taking on Tyler Consolidated in another girl’s contest that kept the home crowd engaged. As the afternoon rolled on, the focus shifted to the boys teams, with North Marion squaring off against Magnolia and Wheeling Central facing Tyler Consolidated in front of a packed gym.

But the weekend was about more than just wins and losses. On Saturday morning, Tyler Consolidated honored its past with a special alumni game, welcoming former players back onto the court where many of their basketball memories were made. The celebration continued with an afternoon reception, giving alumni, players, and fans a chance to reconnect.

The highlight of the weekend came with a special recognition of the Tyler Consolidated team from 20 years ago that made a memorable run to the state tournament. That milestone was celebrated showcasing Knight’s Pride reminding everyone in attendance of the rich history TCHS brings to all sporting events. Adding a personal and emotional touch to the ceremony was the Boggs family, who represented their late son, Matt, as part of the anniversary recognition.

Overall, Wheeling Central emerged victorious on the boys’ side of the Boggs Tournament, turning in a strong performance throughout the weekend to claim the championship. Meanwhile, John Marshall proved to be the class of the field in the girls’ division, capturing the overall title at the Boggs Pizza Roundball Classic.
