Shop With a Cop Event Brings Holiday Joy to Local Children

By Staff | Dec 17, 2025

The annual Shop with a Cop event proved to be one of the most heartwarming days of the year for the local police department and its staff. Held on December 6 at the New Martinsville Walmart, this year’s celebration was a resounding success, thanks to an outpouring of community support.

According to the department, about $17,000 was raised through donations, fundraisers, and volunteer efforts, enough to ensure that 55 children were able to participate in the holiday shopping experience. Officers and kids paired up to stroll the aisles in search of Christmas gifts, creating memories and moments of joy that organizers say make the event so meaningful.

“We cannot put this event on without our community,” the department shared. “Seeing the smiles on these kids’ faces as they pick out gifts for themselves and their families is a blessing for all of us.”

The holiday festivities will continue later this month with a Polar Express Present Delivery Party by Santa, scheduled for December 20, 2025, at the log cabin outside of Middlebourne. Children are encouraged to wear pajamas as they enjoy a magical evening featuring a movie, food, and plenty of hot chocolate. Each child will receive a hot chocolate mug, a custom Polar Express ornament ticket, and Santa’s bell as part of the experience.

Officers also extended a special thank-you to Walmart for hosting the event, noting that their staff went “above and beyond” to help make this year’s Shop with a Cop a success.
