Veterans Day Celebrated at Veterans Park
The community gathered at Veterans Park on Riverside Drive in Sistersville at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The timing of the ceremony, held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, paid tribute to the official end of World War I. Though the day was cold and windy, the sun shone on those who braved the weather to show their respect.
This year’s featured speaker was Toby Heaney, a distinguished academic and military veteran whose career spans both service and scholarship. Heaney introduced the veterans in attendance and shared reflections on their sacrifices and contributions. In addition to his military accomplishments, Henley holds degrees in finance, business administration, and economics, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at West Virginia University. His expertise in macroeconomics and veterans’ affairs has earned him recognition as a respected voice on issues impacting both fields. Heaney is also a candidate for the West Virginia State Senate in District 2.
The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence, a 3 volley salute and the traditional playing of taps honoring the courage and commitment of America’s veterans. Following this service community members gathered for a luncheon in the Elks club ballroom which was open to the public.
