Boggs Pizza & Grill: A Legacy of Love & Community
From a young age, Matt Boggs harbored a deep-seated dream: to own his own restaurant. A cooking enthusiast and devoted fan of the Food Network. He envisioned a place with delicious food and community spirit intertwined. In 2009 this dream blossomed into reality. Alongside his wife, Betsy, his parents Rodney, and Kim, Matt acquired Auggie’s Pizza. His vision for the establishment was clear: to serve the community with the same passion and respect that guided his own life. A year later, the business evolved, relocating to Main Street in Middlebourne and proudly adopting the family name: Boggs Pizza and Grill.
Matt found immense joy at the grill, meticulously crafting each burger with an unwavering commitment to presentation and taste. However, his deepest delight came from scooping ice cream, for the youngest patrons, their smiles, a pure reward. Beyond the counter, Matt leveraged the business to actively give back to the community he cherished, from feeding the local baseball team and sponsoring track events to celebrating positive student behavior with pizza parties.
Tragically, October 2014 brought an unforeseen challenge when Matt was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer. Despite his battle, he continued to pour his heart into the restaurant, finding solace and connection with his customers – a “sunshine in his storm.” His unyielding, positive attitude and fighting spirit became an inspiration to all who knew him. In March 2016 at the young age of 36 Matt passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love for his family, especially his sweet children Landon and Josie, his community, and the family business he so passionately built.
Matt passing understandably cast a shadow over everyone. Betsy, grappling with grief and new priorities, made the difficult decision to step away from the business to complete her bachelor’s degree. Rodney and Kim, Matt’s parents, bravely took over the helm, steadfastly continuing the family tradition. Then in May 2022, they decided it was time to embrace retirement, enjoying the fruits of their labor, and most importantly, the joy of watching their grandchildren thrive. The business was then acquired by Anthony and Sasha Farrell, who thoughtfully preserved it until Betsy’s heart was ready for her return. A few years later, life indeed came full circle.
Betsy Boggs-Dill, widow of the late Matt Boggs–founder of Boggs Pizza–has found new happiness with her husband, Trad Dill. Together, they are building a beautiful new life, blending their families while keeping Matt’s memory alive in everything they do. Feeling that fate brought them together, Betsy and Trad have seized the opportunity to revitalize Boggs Pizza and Grill, shaping it into something Matt would undoubtedly be proud of. As part of their plans, the couple will be adding new screens inside the restaurant so patrons can enjoy streamed broadcasts of Tyler Consolidated High School Silver Knights athletic events. Their shared dedication and love for family, community, and tradition continue to honor Matt’s legacy while opening an exciting new chapter for the beloved local business.
Landon and Jozey hold dear memories of their early days at Bogg’s Pizza with their daddy. These cherished memories made the decision for Betsy and Trad to step back in as owners a very easy one. The business was and remains a foundational part of their lives.
Matt’s radiant smile, a beacon of light at Bogg’s Pizza and Grill, is deeply missed. His legacy can once again live on through continued community giving and a steadfast commitment to serving meals that would earn the approval of even the toughest food critic – Matt Boggs himself!
