Lady Knights Begin Post Season Play
The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights took the first step in their quest for a trip to Charleston for the state volleyball tournament on Tuesday, October 28 at the Castle when they defeated Williamstown in Region 1 double elimination tournament in straight sets 3-0. The Lady Knights were not threatened, coming out strong taking the first set 25-17 and following that up with a 25-14 and 25-19 wins in set two and three. The win was nothing new for the Knights as they picked up their fourth straight win. Leading the offense for the Knights was Kayli West and Katie Grimm. West posted 14 kills, one ace, one block and seven digs. Grimm followed closely with 12 kills and 14 digs. Macie Highley chipped in with five kills, one block and 11 digs. She had help from Raylynn Heintzman who recorded a game high 25 assists. Sloane Wall controlled the service line with two aces. She also had two blocks and nine digs. The Lady Knights will now travel to Oak Glen for the conclusion of the regional when they will again meet up with Williamstown in the first game. Oak Glen will await the winner. The win moves the Knights record to 24-10 for the season.
The Lady Knights fell 3-1 to the Oak Glen Golden Bears in Region 1 round two by the scores of 25-23, 14-25, 11-25 and 18-25. The loss ended a four game winning streak and set up a loser go home rematch with Williamstown scheduled for Monday, November 3 at the Castle at TCHS. The Knights started the night hot taking the first set but struggled in the next three sets in the defeat. Katie Grimm led the Knight offense with 14 kills and 12 digs followed by Kayli West with nine kills, two blocks and eight digs and Macie Highley with seven kills, one ace, two blocks and 11 digs. Raylynn Heintzman again had double digit assists with 27. Sloane Wall controlled the net for the Knights with four blocks. The loss dropped the Knights record to 24-11.
