Second Annual Color Walk/Run and Bake Sale Held

By Randy Rutherford - Staff Writer | Oct 1, 2025

The Tyler County Soccer League celebrated its 21st season with more than just soccer this past weekend, as families, players, and community members gathered at Sistersville City Park on Sunday, September 21, for the league’s Second Annual Color Run/Walk and Bake Sale.

The park’s parking lot was packed early with minivans, SUVs, and family vehicles, unloading eager young athletes and enthusiastic supporters. With kids of all ages wearing white shirts ready to be splashed with vibrant color powder, the atmosphere was full of excitement.

Now in its second year, the color run and bake sale fundraiser is quickly becoming a beloved tradition and an important one. The event helps keep registration costs affordable, currently just $25 per child, and supports scholarships for local kids who might not otherwise be able to participate in the league.

“The goal is simple. We want to make sure every kid who wants to play has the chance,” said Tarina Morris, organizer of the event and a longtime league volunteer leader. “This fundraiser is a fun way to bring the community together while helping to keep soccer accessible for all families.”

The Tyler County Soccer League is run entirely by volunteer coaches and staff. For over two decades, the league has promoted not only sportsmanship and fitness but also forged strong friendships both on and off the field.

Throughout the morning, runners and walkers of all ages made their way around the course while being cheered on by friends, family, and volunteers stationed along the route with bags of colorful powder. Every turn brought more cheers and more color, leaving participants coated in bright hues from head to toe by the finish line.

“It’s such a fun event. The kids have a blast, and it brings everyone together,” shared Tarina. “And the best part is it’s for a great cause.”

The accompanying bake sale was another crowd favorite, offering homemade cookies, cupcakes, breads, and other sweet treats, donated by local families and supporters. Proceeds from both the race and the bake sale go directly back into the league.

Morris said the league hopes to continue growing the event each year and is already looking ahead to next year’s run. “The smiles on the kids’ faces today tell you everything you need to know,” she said. “We’re proud of how far this league has come, and we’re even more excited about where it’s going.”
