Tyler County Schools, in collaboration with local emergency responders, conducted a full-scale active intruder exercise at Arthur I. Boreman Elementary School on June 12, 2025. The drill aimed to assess the response capabilities of emergency responders and school staff in the event of an active shooter scenario.

The exercise, which involved multiple agencies, tested the effectiveness of local emergency responders’ response within the initial incident report and evaluated interagency coordination and communication during the active shooter response.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community,” said Amanda Kimble, Safety Director. “This exercise allows us to identify areas for improvement and refine our emergency response procedures.”

Participating agencies included:

Tyler County Schools;

Tyler County Sheriff’s Department;

Tyler County EMS;

Sistersville Hospital; and

Wetzel-Tyler Health Department.

The exercise was a simulated event, and no actual injuries or threats occurred during the drill. The safety and security of students, staff, and community members remain a top priority.

A post-exercise debrief will be held on July 3, 2025, to discuss lessons learned and identify areas for improvement to create an After-Action Report.
