Paden City Lego Club Offers Fun Learning For All

By Shelley Hanson - Staff Writer | May 7, 2025

Children build and race Lego cars during Lego Club at the Paden City Public Library.

The Paden City Public Library’s Lego Club meets monthly to allow children to play, build and learn with Lego bricks.

Danielle Ice-Davis, director of the Paden City Public Library, said the club is free and meets at 5:30-7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. Children younger than 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

She noted the club is led by volunteer Brian Rogers, who creates the programs with help from the Wetzel County Family Resource Network.

Rogers said this is the second year for the club that features STEM activities with the Legos.

Last month the club made cars that raced down large wooden ramps. During another meeting, the club built bridges out of Legos and then tested their strength by stacking encyclopedias on them.

“The club is open to anybody, though mostly kids, and is used as a way to try STEM activities,” he said. “We do a little bit of learning through play.”

Rogers said he got the idea of doing the club after playing with Legos with his own children.

“I saw how much they were learning and it really got me into learning more and researching education with Legos. I decided why not translate it to other kids as well,” he added.

Funding for the program was possible by money granted to the Family Resource Network from MPLX, which is a subsidiary of Marathon.

Rogers said participants do not need to bring their own Legos to the club. They do receive a small gift of Legos to take home after each club gathering.

He noted a Legos art project will be incorporated into this year’s Summer Reading programs happening across the area. Paden City Public Library’s Summer Reading program will be held at noon on Fridays on the following dates: June 13, Magic of Bill Stokes; June 20, Oglebay Zoo To You; June 27, Smart Center; July 11, Lego Fun; July 18, Art Fun; and July 25, Colors Of The Universe. One last program is slated for noon Wednesday, July 30: Noggin The Sled Dog.

The library is located at 114 S. Fourth Ave., Paden City.
