Tyler County Students Honored At 47th Annual Academic Awards Ceremony

The Academic Hall of Fame inductees are William Wirth, Coley Nichols and Ava Gorrell.
On Thursday, March 20, 2025, Peoples Bank proudly sponsored the 47th Annual Academic Awards Ceremony and Reception, honoring top-performing students in Grades 5-12 from all Tyler County Schools.
The ceremony, held at Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School, recognized students who demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. The top 15% of students from each class, as well as those with a 4.0 GPA or higher, were acknowledged for their hard work and dedication.
Peoples Bank has been a longtime supporter of Tyler County Schools and the academic achievements of these outstanding students. Peoples Bank believes in investing in the future and celebrating their successes.
The ceremony was attended by students, parents, educators, and community leaders, who gathered to congratulate the awardees. A reception followed in the school commons, providing an opportunity for attendees to mingle and celebrate the students’ accomplishments.
In addition to the academic awards, several local businesses and individuals sponsored cash prize drawings for the students.
The winners of the $50 drawings were: Jayden Thomas, sponsored by Bell Chevrolet, Harleigh Yost, sponsored by Dr. Gary and Amanda Nichols with WVU Medicine, Colson Spragg, sponsored by Galaxy Food Center, Coley Bell sponsored by Galaxy Food Center, Haley Sandy, sponsored by The Fort, Brooklyn Gist, sponsored by Jenkins Auto Parts, Travis Moore, sponsored by Jenkins Sub Express, Luke Deaton, sponsored by Boggs Pizza, Scott Surface, sponsored by Phillips Drug and Jubilee Weaver, sponsored by Boatside Deliveries.
The $100 Winners were: Zoey Shinn, sponsored by Peoples Bank and Jackson Sailor, sponsored by Peoples Bank
The evening’s grand prize winner was William Wirth, who received a $1,000 scholarship. To be eligible for this prestigious scholarship, students must have participated in the Academic Awards Ceremony for eight consecutive years. This year, three students met this criterion: Ava Gorrell, Colby Nichols, and William Wirth. William’s name was randomly drawn from among these eligible students, making him the recipient of the $1,000 scholarship. These Academic Hall of Fame inductees, recognized for their contributions to education, were honored during the ceremony.
