‘Boo at Bruce’ Attracts 567 Trick or Treaters
NEW MARTINSVILLE – The annual Boo at Bruce attracted 567 children hungry for Halloween treats and candy on Oct. 24.
Children and their parents lined up an hour before the event, held at Bruce Park and organized by the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Department. Candy stations sponsored by local businesses and organizations lined the park for children to Trick or Treat at.
And for the first time, Wetzel County Schools’ bus drivers turned a school bus into a “Boo Bus” for the children to walk through. The bus was manned by a skeleton driver ready to take the kids on a spooky “ride.”
Transportation Director Teresa Loy and her bus drivers dressed in costume for the occasion as well.
“This is our first year and the drivers have really come together and enjoyed putting it together,” said Loy, who was dressed as a witch. “That was the main goal; to get everyone together and to have a good time.”
Back in the treat line, 9-year-old Camden Zajdowicz was dressed in a scary Michael Myers costume from the classic horror movie “Halloween.” He was accompanied by his mother Cindy Zajdowicz of New Martinsville.
“I’m excited to be here. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” she said, noting it was their first time attending the event.
Among the many treat station sponsors was Citywide Insurance and Real Estate. Insurance agent Nicole Brown said she enjoys seeing the children dressed up during ‘Boo at Bruce.’ Her own daughter, 7-year-old Maddie, was attending and dressed as Evie from the Disney movie “Descendants.”
“It’s going to be a good night,” she said, adding they had 570 treat bags to hand out.
