TC High School Alumni Celebrate With Parade

By Randy Rutherford - Staff Writer | Oct 16, 2024

The Class of 1974 participates in the alumni parade.

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Tyler County Red Raider Alumni Association kicked off their alumni festivities with a buffet breakfast at the Middlebourne Fire Hall which was open to the public. Breakfast was soon followed by the traditional alumni parade led by the Tyler Consolidated High School Knights Marching Band. The community is very grateful to the Knights Band for playing the local favorite, the Red and Black Fight Song, as they marched through downtown followed by the colorful alumni parade float entries.

The Tyler County High School Museum, located in the old high school, was open from 11:00 a.m. till 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and enjoyed both local visitors and out-of- town guests.

Saturday evening brought both beautiful weather and a lovely occasion for reminiscing, starting with the Social Hour at 4:30 p.m. in the former high school gymnasium followed by dinner which was served at 5:30 pm. All tickets were $18.00 and sold in advance. The Banquet speaker for the event was Cindy Westfall Nestor from the Class of 1961. Cindy’s father, I. J. Westfall was a former Principal at Tyler County High School. Cindy entertained the audience with memories shared by her father.

Even with the closure of TCHS in 1993, the alumni association has continued to assist and honor the students of Tyler Consolidated. Our 2024 scholarship recipients were Addison Fletcher and Owen Westbrook. Also, in memory of Rosemary Smith Haught a scholarship was given to Savanna Forrester. Lastly, the Class of 1966 presented a scholarship to Jadelynn Weekly. Congratulations are extended to these deserving students!
