Sistersville Library Summer Reading Program

The Sistersville Summer Reading Program, under the direction of Librarian Sabrina Kyle, is underway for the summer season. Opening week featured a visit from Smokey the Bear, The US Forest Service’s symbol of fire prevention. Smokey, who turned 75 this year, is the longest running public service ad campaign first appearing on a poster in August of 1944. Smokey’s tagline, “Only you can prevent wildfires,” hasn’t changed much over the years, and still helps children and adults realize the importance of fire safety.
Week two took the kids on an outdoor adventure aboard the Sistersville Ferry for a one-hour cruise on the Ohio River. During the cruise the kids decorated their own flowerpots and planted Begonias. Upon departure they were met by Ferry Board member Helen Buccella-Costa and Ferry Board President Gary Bowden handing out balloons and coloring sheets for everyone.
On Wednesday, June 26th at 1:00 the Wheeling Smart Center will be visiting the library sharing their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and fun!
