Arnold Schoolcraft Memorial Bench

By Randy Ruthford - Staff Writer | Apr 24, 2024

The 2024 Arnold Schoolcraft Memorial “Hooked on Fishing Not On Drugs” event will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 8 AM till 12 PM at Conway Lake just off Route 18 in Tyler County. Free lunch will be provided at the Rangers Station and tickets will be handed out to kids to claim available prizes. The event is sponsored by the Tyler County Rod & Gun Club and the WV Department of Natural Resources.

David Kemp, Jim Bowen and Parnell Schoolcraft, all members of the Tyler County Rod & Gun Club, recently took the time to set a memorial bench in memory of Parnell’s dad, Arnold Schoolcraft, along the lake just in time for the fishing contest. The bench was an anonymous donation to the club. The men placed the bench with the hopes it would be used by people wishing to enjoy the beautiful views offered of Conway Lake.

This year the Grand Prize given by the Tyler Rod & Gun Club will be a lifetime hunting & fishing license. In addition, this year’s winner will receive a lifetime trout stamp purchased by Kenny Thomas and his wife Patricia from Thomas Ridge Line Farms. Also awarded this year to the person that catches their limit of fish with the most weight will receive a custom-made fishing pole made by Jason Stoneking.
