Flood Waters Invade Sistersville

By Randy Ruthford - Staff Writer | Apr 11, 2024

The Sistersville Park and Pool were Ground Zero for the floodwaters that inundated the community on Tuesday from the Ohio River. Flooding in the area was the worst seen since 2005 when the crest reached 28.30 feet at the Hannibal Lock and Dam. The Ohio River crested at 4 a.m. Friday morning and started to recede. Especially disheartening for the community was the damage caused to the newly installed playground equipment and safe landing. Mayor Rice and park and pool board officials assured the community clean up and repairs would happen as soon as possible. Other areas of the city were also hit with flood waters including Riverside Drive and the Sistersville Country Club.
