Diana Stender Candidate for TC Board of Education

My name is Diana Stender, and I am a candidate for the Tyler County Board of Education. I grew up in Powhatan Point, Ohio and attended school there until my senior year when we consolidated with River High School. Upon graduation, I attended Ohio University and received my bachelor’s degree in social studies. Once I finished college, I was blessed with a teaching job in Tyler County, and I never looked back. While teaching, I furthered my education at West Virginia University and received my master’s degree as a Reading Specialist. My three children – Mario Stender, AnaRosa Hopkins, and Hailee Zapata – all graduated from Tyler.
I have been in the Tyler County School system for 49 years. I taught 18 years at Ellsworth Middle School and 17 years at Tyler Consolidated High. I coached middle school girls basketball, track, and cheerleaders. I was the varsity cheer coach at Tyler County High School and then Tyler Consolidated High, giving a total of 23 years to the cheer program. I was a part of the consolidation in 1993 helping to establish lifelong traditions that are an important part for all past alumni and future.
Since I retired in 2010, I have been an active substitute teacher working in every school in the county. Many times I have been a long term sub for TCHS. Chances are if you have a child that has graduated or attends high school now, they know me. I care about our students and our school system.
The world is changing at a fast pace, and I believe it is more important than ever to be vigilant and aware of what is happening in our communities and schools. We may not be able to change the world situation, but we can make a difference right where we are. My students placed 1st one year at the State Social Studies Fair with a project entitled, “We Can Make a Difference.” If I am elected for the Tyler County Board Of Education, I promise I will do all I can TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I will take a stand for what is right. I always stand on conservative christian principles. Let’s unite to do what we can in our own part of this world!!
MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
I believe that members on the Board of Education are the “GateKeepers” for the school and children. If elected, I will be the County’s voice in public education. I will work hard with others to sustain a successful future for our children by adopting sound and strong ethical policies. I will work with our communities to improve student achievement. I will be visible, transparent, and I will be your voice!!
