Jim McIntyre Presents the History of the Flag

Flag Day was be celebrated throughout the United States on June 14, the anniversary of the adoption of the National flag in 1777. This day is celebrated by giving honor to our nation’s flag, by displaying them on houses as well as governmental buildings, and in flag raising ceremonies.

The Sistersville Elks Lodge #333 held their annual Flag Day Service on June 14th at the lodge upstairs in the ballroom.

Over the course of the American Flag’s rich history, it has become a national symbol of strength and unity, and a steadfast icon of American pride and inspiration. The flag’s design has changed over time, reflecting the changing composition of the United States. The most recent modification to the flag was depicted on a stamp issued July 4, 1960. This is the first stamp to show the American flag with all fifty stars, celebrating the addition of Hawaii as the fiftieth state in the United States of America.

One thing that has never changed on the American Flag are her colors. They are red, white and blue with white signifying purity and innocence, red, hardiness & valor, and blue signifying vigilance, perseverance & justice.
