American Legion Post 67 Holds Flag Retirement

Retiring the Flags Commander Herbie McEowen, Randy Laugh, Raymond Smith, Larry Price, Gregory McDougle, Ricahrd Doggie Allen, Benny Winfrey, Adam Martin
Flag Day was observed by Sistersville American Legion Post 67 with a Flag Retirement Ceremony held on June 14, 2022. The ceremony was held outdoors behind the American Legion. The Sistersville American Legion Post 67 has been collecting old or damaged flags over the past year. During the ceremony over 300 damaged flags were destroyed.
Ceremonial burning of the American flag, as noted in the US Flag code, recommends the preferred method of retiring a damaged American Flag is burning. The flag should be folded military style into the traditional triangle fold at which point it can be carefully lowered into the fire while those around take a moment to salute and honor it.
Chuck Laugh played Taps at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Sistersville American Legion Post 67 extends special thanks to those who show appreciation to our veterans who have passed away by marking their grave site on Flag Day.
