Sistersville Pool Opens for the Season
He’s back! The fearsome but friendly shark that has lurked in the 11 feet section of the Sistersville Pool is back by popular demand. The old shark was showing signs of age and was painted over last year when no one was available to take on the large project. This year a work release crew of five men from the St. Mary’s Correctional Center volunteered their time to paint the pool on one of the hottest days we have had yet this season. Within the crew was a talented artist that drew the shark free hand and painted the colors using nothing other than the paint purchased for recoating the refurbished pool floor. The crew was glad to help, and especially happy to know so many kids would be enjoying the view of the shark from the heights of the diving boards.
As a small thank you, the Park and Pool treated the work crew to IGA chicken dinners for lunch, cold drinks, and lots of ice-cold water to stay hydrated. Late in the day, Dairy Queen Milkshakes were delivered in assorted flavors.
The pool opened to the public on Monday, June 6th with a free day for all guests courtesy of the Sistersville Planning Commission. Karrissa Buck, returning pool manager, is excited to welcome back all her swimmers, big and small, for another wonderful season. “Plan on coming to see us at the pool soon. We will be offering some new activities during the season, so keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook page,” explained Karissa.
Board member Connie Boyd reminded everyone the pool is a safe place for families and children of all ages, and all posted rules will be strictly enforced. “The pool is part of our community’s rich history, and it is our job as board members to foster good stewardship of the facility. Part of that is making sure everyone is safe while attending,” Connie explained.
The pool is open 7 days a week from noon to 6:00 Monday through Saturday, and 1:00 to 6:00 on Sunday. Price of admittance is $4 for all swimmers three and up. Two and under are free. Any questions or to reserve the pool for a private swim party, please visit their Facebook page at Sistersville Park and Pool, or you may call the pool during pool hours at 304-652-1578.
