TCHS Names Co-Valedictorians

Two students share the title of Valedictorian at TCHS this year. Ayden Hoover and Kate Elle Gorrell.

Ayden Hoover ­ Co Valedictorian

Ayden Hoover is the son of Cody and Kristy Hoover of Middlebourne, WV. He is co-valedictorian and president of the 2022 senior graduating class of Tyler Consolidated High School. In addition, Ayden served as president of the National Honor Society, where he helped organize community service projects. Playing trombone and baritone in the marching, concert, and jazz bands has consumed much of his free time over the years. Ayden also found success in the Technology Student Association, where he competed in various engineering and data analysis competitions. Throughout his high school career, he focused on academics, maintaining a 4.5 GPA, achieving a 35 on the ACT, taking 9 AP tests, and getting into the Peopleás Bank Academic Hall of Fame.

Ayden is enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he will attend in the fall. He will be pursuing a major in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. After college graduation, he plans to pursue a career in software development. 

Kate Elle Gorrell ­ Co Valedictorian

Kate Elle Gorrell is the daughter of Steve and Carrie Gorrell of Sistersville, WV. She shares the valedictorian spot in the class of 2022, with a cumulative GPA of 4.5. She lettered all four years in high school in academics, was named to the Top 15% Peoples Bank award banquet annually and inducted into the Academic Hall of Fame for Tyler Consolidated High school. Kate lettered all four years as a member of the Knights Cross Country team, serving as team captain her senior year. She was a member of the first girls Cross Country team in Tyler Consolidated school history to qualify for the state Cross Country race her sophomore year. Some of Kate’s favorite memories at TCHS will include her Cross-Country seasons. She was also a state qualifier in the “We the People” Citizen and Constitution Tournament. Regionally, Kate was a math field day qualifier, and her junior year was selected as the Tyler County representative to attend Governors Honors Academy. She was a member of the Sistersville Nature Seekers 4-H club, serving as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and song leader over the years. Kate served as the Tyler County Representative for 4-H Teen Council at the state level, and also served as the Tyler Co. 4-H Health Ambassador. She was a 4-H poster contest winner at the state level and won the best of show 4-H project at the Tyler Co Fair with her quilting project exhibit. Kate is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society, serving as Chaplin and Treasurer, respectively. She received the award of Outstanding Achievement in Art from TCHS and had art pieces selected to be displayed at the state level in the “Arts Alive” showcase. She served on the School Climate Committee and the Sources of Strength Committee while at TCHS. Kate is a member of the Sistersville First United Methodist Church. She serves on their administrative board as the youth representative and is a member of the Youth Group and High School Sunday school class. A significant portion of her volunteer opportunities are associated with her church involvement including the Backpack program, Operation Christmas Child, the Willing Worker Team, a Vacation Bible school volunteer, helping with Tabitha’s Closet and the Palm Sunday Walk. Kate has been accepted to Fairmont State University and will be in their Honors program majoring in Architecture. She has been awarded their highest academic scholarship ­ the Charles J. McClain Presidential scholarship. She also received the Balfour valedictorian scholarship from TCHS and the graduate scholarship from Sistersville First UMC.
