Tyler Consolidated Receives 5th Place Award
The West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration (WVABCA) is pleased to announce the Tyler Consolidated High School is the fifth-place winner of the ninth annual NO School Spirits Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest. A total of 47 entries from over 350 students attending 29 middle schools and high schools across the state took part in the WVABCA underage alcohol prevention and education program. Students created and submitted videos that address the dangers of underage drinking and drinking and driving. WVABCA Commissioner Fred Wooten said, “Participation continues to grow each year. Our contest would not be possible without our sponsors and funding from State Farm, National Alcohol Beverage Control Association, Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility and the West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program.”
The awards event was held at Tyler Consolidated High School on Wednesday, April 27th. Teacher Ashley Cunningham and her TV Production Class were presented a check for $750. In addition, the students who submitted the PSA video received certificates of recognition from Governor Justice.
First place went to Clay County High School and a check for $5000. Clay County High School’s winning public service announcement started airing in April on television and radio stations across West Virginia in conjunction with National Alcohol Awareness month and will re-air in August as students return to school.
The second place winner was Lewis County High School, $2500, third place winner was Shady Spring High School, $1000 and the fourth place winner was Tolsia High School, $750 with TCHS rounding out the top five winners.
