Code Red Project Approved by Commissioners
The Tyler County Commission met in regular session for a short meeting on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 in the chambers of the courthouse. All members of the commission were present, and the meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Commissioner Mike Smith, and a prayer, led by Commission President Eric Vincent. Commissioners gave their approval of the minutes from the April 12, 2022 meeting as well as the Fiduciary Report from County Clerk Neil A. Archer II.
First up, Mr. Vincent presented a change order form McKinley Architecture for the Judicial Building. The change order was needed due to price escalation for access paneling due to electrical changes, veneer paneling, price of steel and delays in delivery of material. None of the changes were the fault of the contractor. The original contracted cost of $5,356,235 increased to $5,458,600. This new price reflects an increase of $102,365. Commissioners approved the change order.
Then, Commissioner Vincent went on to recommend that the second meeting date for the commission in May be changed from May 24th to May 31st allowing for two weeks to pass between their scheduled bimonthly meetings. The first scheduled monthly meeting in May was rescheduled from the 10th to the 17th in their previous commission meeting. The commissioners approved the date change.
Next, a discussion was held regarding a previous request from Tina Lancaster, from the Tyler County Public Service Department, regarding the Centerville to Alma water extension at a cost of $102,978 and the SCADA System Upgrade with a change in companies providing the service at a cost of $312,200. Commissioners tabled the decision until the next meeting to offer more time to gather information.
Next up was Prosecuting Attorney Luke Furbee to discuss the purchase of Lots 52, 53 & 54 in Pleasantville Addition adjacent to the Sheriffás Office. Mr. Furbee recommended the Commissioners enter Executive Session to discuss the matter and a motion was made and seconded. The Commissioners entered Executive Session at 9:15. Following the session which ended at 9:45, the commissioners tabled the decision until more information could be gathered.
Tom Cooper, OEM Director asked for approval of the Code Red Project. He explained in the past the Wetzel/Tyler Health Department paid for the project but were no longer able to do so due to the increase in the number of new employees at the Health Department. Code Red is used for notifying the public for issues involving boil water alert orders for Friendly, Sistersville, Middlebourne, and Paden City. The National Weather Service uses it to post their messages. Code Red allows Mr. Cooper to notify all volunteer teams in the county in an emergency. The cost is $5,000 annually and $700 for maintaining the data bases for a total of $5,700. Commissioners agreed to move the cost to the OEM budget.
Following the approval to pay the bills the meeting was adjourned. The next scheduled meeting of the Tyler County Commission is set for Tuesday, May 17 at 9 a.m.
