Sistersville High School Alumni Making Plans for Celebration
Sistersville High School Alumni Association continues to make plans for the much-anticipated 2022 alumni weekend, “Game On” scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, May 27th and 28th. Interest in the event is still running at the maximum level with classes scheduling chapel speakers and parade entries. Deadline for reservation of a chapel speaker spot is coming up fast. First Vice President Darlene Henderson shared, “Chapel will be especially emotional this year because of the absence of the historical SHS celebration during the pandemic. Please remember chapel speakers are open to all decade and five-year classes that should have celebrated during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.” Anyone interested must contact Darlene Henderson at 304-771-4318 or 304-758-4316. The reservation spots are on a first come, first served basis. The deadline is April 15th.
Please remind fellow classmates all three years of alumni are invited to participate in the annual parade. Classes from Tyler Consolidated are also encouraged to join in! New this year, parade viewers can select their favorite float by casting a vote for the “People’s Choice Award” at the Sistersville Museum following the parade. The award will be announced at the banquet on Saturday. Any questions or to request a packet, please contact MaryAnn Rutherford, Second Vice President, at 616-502-8323.
The SHS gymnasium, home to the chapel ceremony, is showing signs of age. The building is under city ownership, but caretaker of the building is mostly in the capable hands of the Sistersville Junior Sports Association (SJA) organization. The need for a new roof is the most pressing and important concern. The alumni association has set up a fund to support the purchase and installation of the new roof. Anyone wishing to contribute to the purchase can donate. Checks can be made out to the SHS Alumni Association and mailed to SHSAA, PO Box 81, Sistersville WV 26175. Please indicate on the check it is a donation for the new roof fund.
Jaime Hissam, Alumni President, reminds everyone attendance at events like the luncheon are limited to 150 and for the banquet 250. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Those wishing to purchase tickets may do so at Bell Chevrolet, Union Bank, or by contacting an alumni officer. Out of town alumni may mail a check to SHSAA, PO Box 81, Sistersville WV 26175. (If mailing a check please include a note indicating which tickets you are purchasing.) Ticket prices are $10 per person for Friday’s luncheon and $20 per person for Saturday’s banquet.
Jaime also shared folks should continue to watch social media and local papers for updates. In closing Jaime emphasized, “Your alumni officers are working hard to plan an amazing alumni weekend! We can’t wait to welcome you home!”
