Charles Clements

Senator Clements was appointed to the Senate in 2017 to fill the unexpired term of Kent Leonhardt. He was elected to a full four-year term in 2018.

Since the Republicans gained control of the Legislature in 2015, we have turned a $400 million deficit into a surplus of close to one billion dollars. This has been accomplished by responsible, conservative government. We have removed barriers to economic growth; we have passed legislation which has removed West Virginia from the “judicial hellhole” in which we have been associated for years. We have had several major employers come to West Virginia and there are many more on the horizon. Improvements to West Virginia Route 2 in Marshall County will lead to more developable land in the upper Ohio Valley.

I want to continue to keep West Virginia on a path to sustainable employment for all. If we see meaningful employment, many of our problems will go away. I fully support law enforcement and treatment to combat our drug problems. Education, workforce development, and infrastructure will be among my priorities. Development of our highways is important for economic development. While we have seen improvements in our roads, it is difficult to repair years of neglect In a short time.
