Fundraiser Planned to Benefit Family of Hunter Willey
PADEN CITY — A party to benefit the family, who lost their son in a tragic fire, will be held Saturday at the Wildcat’s Den.
The fundraiser for Hunter Willey will take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the restaurant located at 217 North Fourth Ave., a short hop from Paden City High School.
The party will feature Mickey Mouse, characters from the cartoon show Paw Patrol, a bake sale, raffle, Chinese auction and more.
Nine-year-old Willey died Jan. 24 in a house fire near Middlebourne. Six local fire departments battled the blaze that destroyed the home where his stepfather, Lawrence “Junior” Evans, lived with his mother Tiffany and brothers 10-year-old Shane and 3-year-old Wyatt.
Stacey Magruder, who co-owns Wildcat’s Den with her husband David, said when the Evans family asked to hold the benefit party at the restaurant, the Magruders didn’t hesitate to offer a helping hand.
“We do what we can to help out the community,” she said.
As to the Wildcat’s Den, the Magruder’s restaurant is a familiar spot known by many in town as a place to order anything from fries, pizza, salads and wings to Philly subs. The restaurant delivers to folks in Paden City, Sistersville and New Martinsville. Anyone wanting to play a round of hoops can use the gym for $2 an hour or, if you feel like playing longer, $5 will get you two hours of gym time, a slice of pizza and a drink. For a chance to score some free food, hoops contests abound at the Wildcat’s Den.
“We’re all about the kids,” Stacey Magruder said.
The couple’s business was located in Sardis, but decided to move to Wildcats’ territory.
“We like it here and it’s a good place to do business,” she said. “Paden City has treated us right.”
Wildcat’s Den winter hours are between 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday; Mon/Tues 11 a.m. and 9 p.m; Wed/Thurs. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m; Fri/Sat. 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
