School closings, Band notes

By Staff | Jan 30, 2017

These Wildcats' purred out some superior tunes this weekend at West Liberty.

Good morning Tyler County.

Tyler school and Wetzel schools are closed today (Monday) due to the winter weather. That means these Tyler marching band students (photo posted on Facebook) can sleep in a little longer and they deserve it after the weekend they’ve had.

Tyler and Paden City bands traveled to West Liberty University Saturday, Jan. 28 to participate in the Region VI West Virginia Music Educators Association’s (WVMEA) Solo and Ensemble Festival. At this event, students performed music as solos or in small groups (ensembles), and were judged in several categories of key musical elements. They received comments from the judge and then were given a rating based on the quality of their performance. Belinda Simpkins-Billiter provided the photos posted on the tylerstarnews.com. Thanks.

Look at that; going through the list of names of students who hit the high notes at West Liberty. Lot of familiar names. Congrats. It’s always a good day when the band kids get the honors they’ve earned. More on that in Wednesday’s edition.

In sports news, Tyler Consolidated’s girls’ basketball team plays St. Marys tonight. That may change if the weather grows more hostile, but will keep you posted.

Photo by Belinda Simpkins-Billiter Look at that. Based on the picture, it looks like these Wildcats had a good performance.

However, no snow is forecast — at least that’s what the weather people say. Temps today for Tyler County will range between 26 degrees and a balmy 31 degrees. At least we’re not in Maine. Oh wait, they’ve got the same temperatures. Nevermind.
